A New Year // Reflections

It is true what they say, as you get older, time really does speed up. It feels like 5 seconds ago that I was writing this post at the end of 2014. Or this one at the end of 2013 (or this one for 2012). This was a crazy year for me, with a lot of ups and a lot of downs. We settled into life in New York, and then we moved again. We bought & sold our first place. I started a new job, even though it was scary to make such a big life shift. I was able to see my best friends get married, my other best friends have a baby. I traveled to Florida, Barcelona, San Francisco, Washington DC, Atlanta GA and Marthas Vineyard. I dyed my hair red, and then spent months dying it back. I became anemic. I felt the pain of growing up, and also saw the beauty of it. & I blogged! Still freaking blogging!

I have to admit, 2016 both excites me and scares me. It is my last full year in my twenties, which is bittersweet. Here's a few things I am very excited for:

♥ My new (sort of) job, and all of the opportunities it brings!
♥ Seeing my best friends get married in San Francisco in July
♥ My trip to Iceland with Matt at the end of May
♥ Continuing to be passionate about my blog, and connecting with so many amazing people (and in NYC now!)
♥ Investing in better quality pieces that will last longer (on my list - Stuart Weitzman boots!)
♥ Becoming more organized in filing docs, keeping the house clean & adulting
♥ Learning to cook more with Blue Apron!
♥ Many more dinner parties, date nights and life adventures all with Matt!

Thank you all so much for continuing to support me through the years. I love you all, and wish you a very happy new year!

Our Living Room Remodel With West Elm

I am so excited to finally fully share our new living room (you can see the before video here!) We were SO excited to work with West Elm on picking out furniture that feels like "us" since we've had mostly hand-me-downs at all of our other homes.

After watching Mad Men, we felt so inspired by all of the mid century homes in the show. We knew we wanted our living room to capture that vibe, with a mix of rustic vintage furniture and mid century pieces. When I saw the beautiful mid century Peggy Sofa in this amazing cayenne color, I knew it was the perfect couch for the space. The Atlas Rug added the rustic and cozy vibe we were going for, and from there we added a ton of small and special touches to make it feel more like our own!

West Elm Peggy Sofa / West Elm Atlas Rug / West Elm mid century side table / West Elm Mongolian Lamb Pillow Cover / Crosley record player

West Elm adjustable ladder / West Elm lantern /  West Elm stump / Urban Outfitters pyramid shelf / West Elm snow globe

This room is much bigger than our last living room, so we had some empty space! We decided to dedicate a big portion to storing our records, which we love and use every day. We also thought this adjustable ladder was the perfect solution to storing our New Yorker magazines, and also making good use of the corner!

West Elm Industrial Table / IKEA side table / Overstock.com chair / West Elm pine stem

I know this sounds ridiculous, but one of my favorite parts of our new living room is that the couch is actually comfortable! We've had so many uncomfortable leather couches & vintage tiny suede sofas in the past few years, that our friends were starting to give up on crashing. haha. seriously though, this couch is a great size and it is comfortable, which was much needed!

Hiking Upstate NY: Breakneck Ridge

My 2 brothers visited me, and we all went on a hike in upstate NY. It was a tough hike for me (I'm a wimp, and I had a blister about 5 mins in) but it was worth it for this view!

It's funny, because when I'm doing something scenic I always want to remain some semblance of cute, but also wear comfortable enough clothes to move in. This outfit worked perfectly. I've been more okay with big slouchy sweaters these days... :)

FOXES

IT IS CHRISTMAS WEEK! I am so excited, because this next weekend is a four-day weekend, and there's so many exciting things coming up such as my in-laws visiting, christmas day with my cousins and a new years dinner double date we have planned! I know it is nerdy to always be looking forward to little things, but it's fun to have things to keep me motivated & excited! This time of year is the best.

When this little adorable vintage dress arrived from Unique Vintage i was so excited. It has adorable foxes on it, and it's the most perfect color. I always find it hard to pick a color scheme in the winter other than greys and whites, but this mint + brown dress is perfect for the cooler months! I'll be back with more posts this week! Xo

Winter Beach

I wore this casual festive outfit to our little dinner party that we hosted. Matt made homemade pizza, and we had all of our closest friends over, it was one of my favorite nights in a long time! Our dining room is still a work in progress, but it was so fun getting everyone together for a sit down meal for the holidays!

I love this scarf, and the fun flair it adds to an otherwise simple outfit. The right accessories can bring  so much WOW to an outfit!

Two Holiday Looks In the City ❄☃

Every holiday season there are two things I absolutely need – a new red dress as a holiday party go-to, and some cute around-the-house pieces (like a fun sweater, or a mug for hot chocolate, etc.) I love seeing our collection grow each year, as we make more traditions and soak in all of the holiday feels that we used to miss out on in Florida.

Here’s a little peek at some of my holiday staples from Francesca's for this year! They have so many adorable outfits, and little stocking stuffers and gifts too! I had too much fun wearing this red dress to a holiday event in the city. I paired it with some festive gold accessories and a red lip, and felt so glam. I also absolutely LOVE this reindeer sweater (& it lights up!). I promise it will be on me at every sweater party. I hope my gift guide helps you snag some last minute cheer! Xo
